Parent Teacher Conferences On Monday (No School for Students)
Please make sure to arrive
on time for your conference with teachers on Monday. As you know, time is very limited and we want
to ensure everyone has the same amont of time for all students.
-
ECC-5th grade: Sign up for a conference time with your
teachers.
-
6th grade: Appointments were sent home with your child
on Wednesday. You will be meeting with the other set of teachers (different
from last conference cycle).
-
7th and 8th
grade: Drop
by any of the teachers' classrooms between 12PM-7PM.
And don't forget the specialists! Our
art, PE, music teachers and librarians will be at school and would love to talk
to you about their programs.
Bring a dish to the teacher/staff appreciation luncheon this Monday,
March 1! Say "THANKS" to
our wonderful staff...It is a long-standing tradition at Oyster-Adams that on
parent-teacher conference days, we bring food for the faculty and
administration so they can grab a quick and delicious lunch during a very busy
day. This Monday, March 1, please bring a dish by 12:00
p.m.
Questions? Want to help with prep and/or clean-up? Contact Wendy Jacobson at 202-390-6456 or

NO Principals' Coffee this month: Unfortunately, due to
scheduling conflicts, we will be unable to hold a Principals' Coffee in
March. Ms. Villegas and Ms.
Liang-Aguirre enjoy this opportunity to dialogue with parents and will be
sending out a thorough update in March to all parents. As always, we welcome your comments and
feedback at any time.
A reminder about Student Cell Phones: We
understand that many students carry cell phones for convenience and safety
reasons. Please note the policy:
Cell phones are to be
"off" and stored in the backpack or locker during the school day and
cannot be visible.
Staff will confiscate
any phone that is seen (even if it isn't used to place a call or text) and
a parent/guardian will have to come to school to retrieve the phone.
Parents/guardians who
need to contact their child during the school day should call the main
office of the appropriate campus.
Cell phones are brought
at the discretion and risk of the student and their parents. Lost or
stolen cell phones are not the responsibility of the school.
Getting the morning started on time: Our teachers are struggling
to make every minute of instruction count and instruction begins at 8:45AM. You
can help by:
Getting your child to school by 8:30AM
so that she or he is ready to enter the class at 8:40AM.
Making appointments to speak to your
child's teachers after school or at another arranged time. Teachers need to be focused on their
class at 8:40AM and cannot engage in discussions with parents at that
time.
Oyster-Adams Middle School Students Participate in MATHCOUNTS: Congratulations to the Oyster-Adams MATHCOUNTS team
for competing this past Saturday in the regional MATHCOUNTS competition at St.
Anselm's Abbey School.
Oyster-Adams was represented by both 8th and 6th grade math students who
diligently worked through 10 rounds of complex problem-solving activities. The
coaches Mr. Cárdenas, Ms. Douglas and Mr. Hunter would like to thank the
students for their hard work and the parents for their support.
MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club and competition
program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement across the
country. The club will continue for the
rest of the school year. Interested
students should see one of the coaches to join.
