Farewell to Oyster-Adams art teacher, Carole Whelan:  Our beloved art teacher, Carole Whelan, is retiring after 34 years of extraordinary dedication.  She has inspired generations of children to express themselves and their learning through art and, in fact, to see themselves as artists.

There will be a reception in her honor onSunday, June 13th at the Josephine Butler Center at 2437 15th St., NW.  We hope that you will drop by between 3 and 5pm to personally express your gratitude for her incredible contributions to our school community.  Everyone is welcome, but please note that childcare will not be offered and all children must be supervised directly by an adult.

Field Day At Oyster-Adams
Friday the 4th, all students PK-8th grade will be participating in a variety of field day activities. In the morning, grades Pre-K through second will be involved in different stations.  In the afternoon, 3rd grade will be competing in relay races. Intermediate Campus students will be involved in programs all day.

NEWS FROM THE LSRT

June 1, 2010

LSRT elections will be held Friday, June 11.  Those parents interested in serving on the LSRT should submit their name, contact information, and a short bio describing their involvement with Oyster-Adams and any other relevant experience they would bring to the LSRT.

The deadline for submitting these materials is Monday, June 7 to the current LSRT chairs: Julia.hainer-violand@dc.gov and skstevenson@gmail.com.  Or, they may be submitted to the school office on either campus.

LSRT is a committee of parents, teachers, school administrators, staff and community members that meets monthly to advise the Principal on strategic and budgetary matters. The LSRT helps the Principal create the Comprehensive School Plan (the school's strategic plan) every two years, and then develops action plans and monitors the implementation of priority initiatives.  LSRT members serve two school-year terms, meet monthly, and attend DCPS training sessions.

There are eight parent positions on the Oyster-Adams LSRT, designed to ensure representation from across our school community, as follows:
  • 2 Spanish speakers with a child at the Adams campus
  • 2 English speakers with a child at the Adams campus
  • 2 Spanish speakers with a child at the Oyster campus
  • 2 English speakers with a child at the Oyster campus
There are currently five LSRT parent members serving in their first year on the committee.  The positions we will be electing this year include the following:
  • 1 English speaker with a child at Adams
  • 1 Spanish speaker with a child at Oyster
  • 1 English speaker with a child at Oyster
